Solar Panel Bird Proofing & Cleaning in Hertfordshire
Solar panels provide an ideal sheltered nesting place for pigeons and other pest birds. Once birds begin roosting beneath your panels, the problem can quickly escalate, leading to large accumulations of droppings, nesting materials, unpleasant odours and even secondary pest infestations.
At Summit Pest Control, we provide professional solar panel bird proofing and solar panel cleaning throughout Hertfordshire, including St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Hatfield and the surrounding areas. Our specialist proofing systems prevent birds from nesting beneath your panels while helping to protect both your property and your solar investment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do pigeons nest under solar panels?
The space beneath roof-mounted solar panels provides birds with exactly what they are looking for:
- Shelter from wind and rain.
- Protection from predators.
- A warm nesting environment.
- Safe access to nearby rooftops.
Once one pair of pigeons begins nesting, others often follow, allowing colonies to develop surprisingly quickly.
What problems can birds cause under solar panels?
Although pigeons may appear harmless, nesting beneath solar panels can create a number of expensive and unpleasant problems.
Common issues include:
- Large accumulations of bird droppings.
- Blocked roof drainage.
- Nesting materials collecting beneath panels.
- Persistent noise, particularly early in the morning.
- Unpleasant odours.
- Damage to roof coverings.
- Increased maintenance requirements.
- Attraction of additional pests.
The longer birds are allowed to remain, the more difficult and costly the problem usually becomes.
Can pigeons damage my solar panels?
While the panels themselves are generally robust, bird activity around them can contribute to problems including:
- Build-up of debris around the panels.
- Reduced access for maintenance.
- Damage to surrounding roof areas.
- Blocked gutters and rainwater flow.
- Increased wear to roof surfaces beneath the panels.
Regular inspection and professional proofing help prevent these issues before they become significant.
Can bird nests attract other pests?
Yes.
One of the biggest concerns is that accumulated nesting materials and droppings create ideal conditions for secondary pest infestations.
These may include:
- Textile insects.
- Bird mites.
- Fleas.
- Beetles.
- Other insects attracted to nesting debris.
Removing both the birds and their nesting material helps reduce the likelihood of further pest problems developing.
